About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer Intern to join our National Water Management Team and Water South team in Baton Rouge, LA. As a Geotechnical Engineer Intern, you will play a key role in delivering engineering and consulting services for a variety of projects, including those focused on shoreline stability, flood risk reduction, and waterfront infrastructure resilience. Our ideal candidate will have geotechnical experience in slope stability, seepage and foundation analyses. With this role as a geotechnical engineer intern, you will work on projects both small and large, and as a team member under the close guidance and supervision of a senior engineer. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills to fluently communicate to clients and present technical information.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing master's degree in civil engineering.
  • 1 year of prior geotechnical internship or work experience.
  • Proficiency in using programs such as gINT, SEEPW, SLOPEW, CWALSHT, PYWall, LPILE, and GROUP.
  • Experience in geotechnical analyses for dams, levees, cofferdams, and foundations for various hydraulic structures, including seepage, static and seismic stability analysis, liquefaction analysis, deformation analysis, and foundation and settlement analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize technical knowledge to support geotechnical projects related to water management, flood resiliency and general infrastructure design.
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses for levees, dams, floodwalls, and other hydraulic structures, including seepage, slope stability and settlement analysis, and prepare technical reports.
  • Prepare geotechnical recommendations that aid in the development of designs, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Work with the multi-disciplinary Water Management team that includes Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical Engineers to deliver innovative designs for clients.
  • Evaluate data from instrumentation systems at levees, spillways, outlet works, and slopes.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating geotechnical field investigations.
  • Review boring logs and laboratory data.
  • Design and analyze other heavy civil and earthen structures, prepare design/bid packages for permitting/construction, and coordinate and oversee construction administration and inspection services.
  • Plan field exploration and laboratory testing programs.
  • Travel may be required to project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, construction oversight, etc.
