The position involves the layout of borings and test pits using both conventional surveying and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Responsibilities include the observation and classification of test pits and soils, performing hand auger borings, DCP testing, soil logging, and other geotechnical field work. Office responsibilities consist of classifying samples obtained from drilling operations and reducing GPS and other geotechnical data for utilization and production. The role may also include department administrative duties and work in the construction materials testing department. The technician will primarily work on active construction sites, performing field observation, testing, sampling, and inspection of soil, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement. Under the direction of staff professionals/project managers, the technician will perform routine field and/or laboratory tests and assist in more complex tasks as required. Daily communication with site contractors, other technicians, and project managers is essential. ECS will provide training in their methodology for observations, inspections, and testing of building/construction projects, and documentation of findings in accordance with accepted engineering practices. As experience increases, ECS encourages and aids technicians in enhancing their skills through internal and external training programs of certification.
