About The Position

Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field Professional to join our team in Bridgeville, PA. Individuals in this role will work under close supervision of qualified senior geotechnical personnel and will be expected to perform advanced tests or observations within the Construction Observation and Testing (COT) or Geotechnical groups. They are expected to perform routine assignments independently, and perform prescribed tasks in support of senior personnel. We are currently only considering candidates based in the Pittsburgh area or the broader Southwestern Pennsylvania region. This position requires a strong local presence, and relocation assistance is not available at this time. Office Address: 206 Bursca Dr, Bridgeville, PA 15017

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geology or related field of study
  • Must have computer literacy in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license (and legal, operable, personal vehicle for field work; mileage reimbursement provided)

  • EIT or GIT (preferred)
  • May also be required to have and/or receive applicable certifications within a specified time frame after the date of hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced observations or tests to support the COT group. These tests may include but are not limited to foundation inspections or proofrolls.
  • Coordinate aspects of drilling projects (utility clearance procedures, oversight of subsurface explorations, site characterization, and visual soil classification)
  • Coordinate and review laboratory testing
  • Prepare geotechnical exploration reports, or pertinent sections thereof (including appropriate figures, test results, and final exploration logs)
  • Perform routine calculations, including settlement, bearing capacity, lateral earth pressures, pavement section designs, slope stability, etc. under the training of senior staff
  • Support senior staff in the design and preparation of plans for retaining walls and other structures
  • Communicate with supervisors and others by phone during the course of the workday
  • Business development duties are generally limited to assisting senior staff with proposals, but personnel should always be attentive to marketing opportunities
