The Geotechnical Engineer will support Kuna Engineering and its clients throughout Alaska, including the Red Dog Mine. This role involves providing essential support for geotechnical design activities related to infrastructure projects, which encompass buildings, utilities, and roads. The Geotechnical Engineer will lead necessary geotechnical evaluations and field investigations, focusing on stability analyses, seismic analyses, and other critical support for various building and infrastructure projects. Additionally, the individual may assist with various environmental projects as time permits, including site investigations and permitting processes. Collaboration with the Environmental Director to plan schedules and other project-related activities will also be a key aspect of this position. In this role, the Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for the technical planning and execution of geotechnical projects, which includes authoring and completing necessary documentation. The engineer will perform geotechnical analyses for infrastructure and building projects, prepare design specifications and drawings for the geotechnical components of larger design projects, and conduct stability, seismic, and related geotechnical calculations and evaluations to support design and evaluation-type projects. The oversight of geotechnical investigation projects will also be a significant responsibility, which includes planning and executing drilling and sample collection, as well as leading other Kuna employees and/or subcontractors. Management of health and safety protocols for field programs will be assigned as necessary, along with periodic client interactions focusing on drilling programs and geotechnical investigations or design elements. The engineer will also provide assistance and technical expertise for geology or geotechnical aspects of environmental permitting projects, ensuring compliance with geotechnical engineering standards and codes, and researching regulations, policies, or procedures as needed.
