About The Position

The Geotechnical Engineer provides technical analysis and calculations using computer models, interprets the results and makes recommendations to support Mosaic's project needs in support of mining activities. The Engineer will manage projects and initiatives associated with clay disposal, dragline crossings, infrastructure corridors, etc. This role requires day-to-day coordination with consultant engineers, contractors and internal subject matter experts to arrive at the best solution for projects of varying complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a major in Civil, Environmental, Mining or related engineering discipline required.
  • Surface mining or heavy construction experience with exposure to environmental and safety compliance and stormwater management elements. Demonstrated engineering and design experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain a cooperative, productive work relationship with management, coworkers, consultants and end users.
  • Advanced understanding of personal computers and productivity / application software.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate level courses or certifications in engineering, business, project management or construction are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the detailed engineering of mining/geotechnical related projects.
  • Provide technical computer modeling, analysis, and development of civil and geotechnical designs.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering support appropriate for problem solving of mining related issues associated with soil mechanics, concrete or steel structures, hydraulics, storm-water management and open channel flow.
  • Monitor contractor performance, development, and implementation of monitoring programs and other related analysis.
  • Collect, interpret, and maintain an exchange of information, ideas, and recommendations to internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Determine most effective utilization of resources to achieve unit objectives and long-range goals.
  • Demonstrate compliance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Rules 62-672, applicable Federal Rules and Consent Decree requirements on all aspects of clay settling area operations.
  • Work closely with staff from other internal Mosaic teams to comply with permit requirements, monitoring plans, and all clay settling area related permitting processes are in compliance.
  • Provide geotechnical assistance as required.
