About The Position

The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for developing and delivering detailed designs and engineering solutions for mining and geotechnical projects that align with Mosaic's operational goals. This role supports projects and initiatives related to clay disposal, dragline crossings, infrastructure corridors, and other mining-related activities. Success in this role requires daily coordination with multi-disciplinary teams often consisting of engineers, regulators, mine operators and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a major in Civil Engineering or Mining Engineering is required.
  • Proven experience as a mine engineer, regulator or engineering consultant supporting the mining industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the geotechnical engineering, design, and construction oversight for projects specific to the mining industry.
  • Familiarity with mine permitting processes, environmental and safety compliance standards, and water management practices within the industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel, Word, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to convey technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with management, colleagues, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • 2+ years of experience as a mine engineer or consultant engineer within the mining industry (Engineer II)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the engineering, design, and oversight of civil and/or geotechnical projects specific to the mining industry (Engineer II)
  • Ability to obtain Engineer Intern (El) Certification or Professional Engineer License is required (Engineer II)
  • 4+ years of experience as a mine engineer or consultant engineer within the mining industry (Engineer III)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the engineering, design, and oversight of civil and/or geotechnical projects specific to the mining industry (Engineer III)
  • Demonstrate exposure to environmental and safety compliance standards, and stormwater management practices within the mining industry (Engineer III)
  • Ability to perform complex assignments with limited guidance and completes them within established deadlines (Engineer III)
  • 8+ years of experience as a mine engineer or consultant engineer within the mining industry (Engineer Sr)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the engineering, design, and oversight of civil and/or geotechnical projects specific to the mining industry (Engineer Sr)
  • Demonstrate exposure to environmental and safety compliance standards, and stormwater management practices within the mining industry (Engineer Sr)
  • Ability to lead multiple projects of significant impact to the organization and identify problems and develops solutions. Makes independent studies, analyses and recommendations (Engineer Sr)

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate-level coursework, engineering licensure, project management and construction monitoring experience are skillsets valued for this role.
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain within 1 year is preferred (Engineer III)
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain within 1 year is preferred (Engineer Sr)

Responsibilities

  • Support the preliminary and detailed engineering and designs of mining and geotechnical infrastructure projects that align with Mosaic's operational need.
  • Collect, interpret, and share technical data and recommendations with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Perform and review engineering analyses, to address challenges related to soil mechanics, structures (concrete and steel), and water management.
  • Coordinate with consulting engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrate compliance with applicable Federal (MSHA, USACE and NPDES), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Rules 62-672, and County permit conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to demonstrate compliance with design requirements and operational need.
  • Support operation and monitoring of civil works throughout the mine.
  • Apply sound judgment in decision making to compare the effectiveness of various design solutions to manage risk, cost and schedule requirements.
