Requirements

  • A bachelors degree in civil engineering suffices; a masters degree in geotechnical engineering is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis, geotechnical field investigation, and construction supervision.
  • The successful candidate will have a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky or Indiana.
  • Local experience and familiarity with the local engineering practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Geotechnical background including fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
  • Experience in construction oversight for foundation and pavement construction and earthwork observation.
  • Experience with geotechnical engineering software; SlopeW, GeoStudio.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium-scale geotechnical projects and manage field geologists and engineers.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check for clearance to work on various private and government facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance in geotechnical engineering across diverse projects in both public and private sectors and ensure strict adherence to applicable guidelines.
  • Perform geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
  • Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical data interpretation to ensure a high-quality, timely, and within-budget delivery of the projects.
  • Perform geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses in support of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements, including shallow and deep foundations, grading, utility trenching, and other earthwork operations.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively.
  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development.
  • Play an active role in professional associations.
