Geotech Design Engineer Intern
About The Position
GeoStabilization International (GSI) is the industry leader in geotechnical engineering and construction, specializing in emergency landslide repair, slope stabilization, rockfall mitigation, and critical infrastructure resilience. We are growing rapidly and seeking engineering interns who want more than a summer job-this program is designed to develop future leaders who can progress into full-time engineering roles at GSI. As a Field Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on, practical experience working alongside our design engineers, project managers, and field crews. Each intern is paired with both a manager and mentor for daily guidance, technical development, and career support. This is not a shadowing internship-you will be expected to take ownership of a capstone project, develop solutions, and present your findings directly to company leadership at the end of the program. Requirements
- Current student pursuing a degree in Civil, Structural, Geological, Geotechnical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (related fields welcome).
- Strong preference for students within 12 months of graduation (undergraduate or graduate) as of Summer 2026.
- GPA of at least 3.0 (preferred 3.5+).
- Grit, resilience, and curiosity-willingness to tackle complex problems in dynamic field conditions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with evidence of leadership potential.
- Adaptability and the ability to learn quickly under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of your assigned Capstone Project and present results to company leadership.
- Perform various manual labor assignments as directed by the Site Superintendent
- Assist Field Engineers with geotechnical testing, writing geotechnical reports, various project management duties such as ordering materials and equipment for the project you are assigned to, and any other duties needed to make the project a success
- Follow all GSI Safety regulations
- Take direction from an engineering manager to prepare technical documents for small scale civil engineering projects (retaining walls)
