About The Position

As a Geospatial Technician Intern at SAM, you’ll work alongside experienced remote sensing and geospatial professionals supporting a diverse range of market groups, which may include government, transportation, utilities, land development, renewables, and other public- and private-sector clients. Interns are embedded within production teams and gain hands-on experience transforming aerial and spatial data into high-quality, client-ready mapping products. This role provides exposure to real-world remote sensing workflows — from raw data ingestion through final delivery — while helping you build practical, transferable skills used across the geospatial industry.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Geospatial Science, Remote Sensing, GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Internship will run from May 18th until August 7th.
  • Exposure to geospatial concepts such as GIS, remote sensing, LiDAR, imagery, or spatial analysis through coursework or projects
  • Interest in learning a variety of geospatial tools, workflows, and production environments
  • Strong analytical, math, and computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Attention to detail, curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Support production teams in the processing, calibration, quality control, and analysis of geospatial datasets, including LiDAR and aerial imagery
  • Assist in converting raw remote sensing data into accurate topographic and planimetric mapping products
  • Perform daily data review to evaluate accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards
  • Classify and refine LiDAR point clouds to improve data quality and feature representation
  • Extract, interpret, and compile mapping features from LiDAR and imagery to support a wide variety of project types
  • Work with a range of industry-standard geospatial, remote sensing, and data-processing tools, gaining exposure to different software platforms and workflows used across SAM
  • Analyze and model geospatial data across space and time while learning how production workflows scale across teams and markets
  • Collaborate with teammates across multiple market groups to understand how remote sensing supports different client needs and delivery requirements

Benefits

  • Gain hands-on experience working with real-world geospatial and remote sensing data supporting government and commercial clients
  • Learn from experienced professionals through mentorship, collaboration, and day-to-day production work
  • Build a broad technical foundation applicable across many geospatial career paths
  • Embrace professional growth by joining our Intern Insights meetings with industry-leading experts throughout your internship
  • Show off your SAM pride with exclusive SAM swag on your first day of the internship
  • Opportunity for part-time or continued employment following the internship, based on performance and business needs
