About The Position

NV5 is seeking a Geospatial Solution Engineer to join a remotely distributed team delivering cutting-edge GIS solutions for state, local and commercial clients. The Cloud Geospatial Solution Engineer plays a critical role in designing, deploying, securing, and supporting modern ArcGIS Enterprise environments across cloud, hybrid, and on‑premises infrastructures. This role blends deep expertise in Esri technologies with cloud engineering best practices to help clients build resilient, scalable, and high‑performing geospatial systems. You'll work hands‑on with clients to implement new environments, troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and guide architecture decisions that align with long-term GIS goals. As more organizations modernize their geospatial infrastructure, the Cloud Geospatial Solution Engineer ensures clients can confidently deploy, scale, secure, and operate ArcGIS systems. Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, or enterprise GIS administration
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS, Azure, or both
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise installation, configuration, and lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts (DNS, certificates, load balancers, routing)
  • Experience with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Understanding of cloud security frameworks and best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for enterprise systems
  • ArcGIS Enterprise (Server, Portal, Online) and ArcGIS Pro
  • Strong communication and client‑facing skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders
  • Proactive mindset with a desire to solve challenges and improve system reliability
  • Comfortable working independently or embedded in client teams
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to remote work
  • Ability to train others

Nice To Haves

  • SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, or other database administration experience
  • Familiarity with FME, GeoEvent Server, Mission Server, or Utility Network
  • Prior experience supporting ML/AI, analytics, or backend data pipelines
  • Proficient in Linux operating systems
  • Certifications such as: AWS Solutions Architect Associate / Professional Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect Esri Enterprise Administration or Deployment certifications

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain ArcGIS Enterprise environments in AWS, Azure, On-Prem and hybrid infrastructures
  • Apply cloud engineering best practices, including high availability, load balancing, security hardening, and performance optimization
  • Configure and manage cloud networking: VPC/VNET design, VPNs, peering, routing, security groups, and firewalls
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot ArcGIS Enterprise components (Portal, Server, Data Store, GeoEvent)
  • Support identity integrations (ADFS/Azure AD/OAuth), SSL/TLS, and enterprise security policies
  • Diagnose and remediate performance issues, outages, bottlenecks, and distributed system failures
  • Create or maintain automation workflows (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • Contribute to cloud deployment automation using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates
  • Implement monitoring strategies (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ArcGIS Monitor, PRTG)
  • Support geospatial data architecture, database connectivity, and cloud storage integrations (S3, Azure Blob, RDS/SQL Server)
  • Assist with API‑driven integrations or backend services to support GIS workflows
  • Lead or support cloud discovery sessions, architecture reviews, readiness assessments, and security checkups
  • Develop migration plans for ArcGIS Enterprise, cloud adoption, and system modernization
  • Provide documentation, training, and knowledge transfer for client teams
