Lynker is seeking a Geospatial Developer to support our contract in advancing flood inundation mapping and hydrofabric solutions. This role will contribute to developing, optimizing, and deploying models and tools in cloud computing environments, supporting real-time flood forecasting products across the US. The ideal candidate has a strong background in geospatial development, hydrologic modeling, and cloud-based data processing.

  • Develop and optimize Python-based geospatial data processing workflows.
  • Run and evaluate various flood inundation mapping tools.
  • Develop, test, and deploy solutions using open-source libraries and tools.
  • Process and analyze large geospatial datasets, including Digital Elevation Models and hydrofabric datasets.
  • Contribute to model optimization efforts, ensuring scalability, reproducibility, and maintainability in a cloud computing environment.
  • Enhance model performance by identifying and resolving computational inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and software developers to implement and improve existing modeling tools.
  • Prepare reports, publications, and presentations summarizing modeling and software development efforts.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies in hydrologic modeling, GIS, cloud computing, and machine learning.
  • MS or PhD in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
  • Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood inundation mapping, and geospatial processing.
  • Advanced programming proficiency in Python; experience with R is a plus.
  • Experience working with large geospatial datasets.
  • Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., QGIS) and open-source geospatial processing tools.
  • Experience with AWS cloud resources for geospatial processing.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Experience with software development best practices, including code testing, version control (Git), and collaborative development.
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) applications in hydrology and geospatial analysis.
  • Familiarity with the Height Above Nearest Drainage (HAND) technique.
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques to spatially and temporarily evaluate FIM predictions.
  • Experience developing probabilistic prediction products.
