The Estimator position at George McKenna involves estimating job costs, preparing detailed scope letters, and managing vendor quotes for construction projects.   • Complete take offs including counting fixtures, devices, and equipment.
  • Lay out and measure branch circuits, home runs, feeders, and distribution utilizing Blue Beam.
  • Request quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Read and highlight notes and specifications.
  • Estimate jobs per specifications and NEC code.
  • Walk jobs or assign tasks as necessary.
  • Input estimates into CONEST.
  • Prepare Scope Letters detailing the project scope.
  • Develop relationships with general contractor estimating departments.
  • Follow up with general contractors and maintain estimate bid log tracking results.
  • Determine if general contractors buy out jobs through Estimator or Project Manager.
  • Identify potential opportunities from bids and determine strategies to secure projects.
  • Utilize Build Connect to manage Bid Calendar, Vendor and Subcontract quotes, and Bid log.
  • Turn projects over to Operations.
  • Ensure timely completion of scope letters and estimates for bids.
  • Review contracts and scopes prior to signing.
  • Walk estimated jobs during rough, trim out, and final stages.
  • Maintain confidentiality of vendor and subcontractor pricing.
  • Offer value engineering to general contractors on negotiated bids.
  • Work with other estimators or project managers in assembling estimates.
  • Assist other estimators to complete bids.
  • Estimate Low Voltage or Service department projects.
  • Work as a team with estimating, project management, service, and low voltage teams.
  • Identify assemblies that need modification or creation to match field installation.
  • Maintain and adjust material pricing and rental rates.
  • Create and modify assemblies as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and updated APS Bid tracker.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as CONEST and Blue Beam.
  • Strong understanding of NEC code and construction specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contracts.
  • Experience in managing vendor quotes and subcontractor relationships.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with general contractors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Build Connect software.
  • Knowledge of low voltage systems and service department projects.
  • Familiarity with construction management processes.
