About The Position

The Geology Technician will be involved in field work that requires long hours and extended rotations. The position is based out of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, with field work extending through the western United States. The technician will work closely with geologists and geoscientists on geothermal exploration projects, ensuring that all scientific field methods and sampling are performed to the highest standards. The role also includes supporting daily field operations, which involves the operation and maintenance of vehicles, UTVs, and light mechanical equipment and tools.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions in the past three years.
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and professionalism.
  • High degree of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in small, remote teams.
  • Willingness to commute long distances (300+ miles) and participate in extended field rotations (14 days).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions at a fast operational tempo.
  • Physically able to perform strenuous tasks, including bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with experience operating and maintaining field vehicles and equipment.
  • Skilled in GPS use and navigation in remote environments.
  • Proficient with computers, especially within the Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Directories).

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA certification, First Aid, and/or Wilderness safety training.
  • Experience with GAIA GPS or GIS platforms.
  • Strong passion for outdoor, field-based work.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain diesel trucks, trailers, and UTVs safely.
  • Competence in loading, unloading, hauling, and backing trailers on and off-road.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all scientific field methods and sampling are performed to the highest standards.
  • Support daily field operations, including the operation and maintenance of vehicles, UTVs, and light mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with geologists and geoscientists on geothermal exploration projects.
  • Maintain clean, orderly work practices and good housekeeping standards.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $21.00 per hour, plus a production bonus (typically totaling $350 to $450 per day).
  • Per Diem: Provided at the prevailing GSA standard rate.
  • Eligibility for full-time employment and benefits following the successful completion of a six-month field season.
  • Company-paid hotel accommodations.
  • Field teams are provided with a company vehicle during work rotations.
