About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Part-Time Geologist Supervisor for our Syracuse, NY location. The geologist will need to have extensive experience conducting geoarchaeological investigations and writing geoarchaeological reports. Tasks will include working with archaeologists on geomorphological surveys, archaeological/Geotech soil boring monitoring. They must be willing and have the ability to travel. Archaeologists must have knowledge of basic field excavation techniques, the ability to identify Precontact and Historical artifacts, understand site and feature formation processes, be able to properly fill out and quality check field and laboratory forms, and be able to draw accurate profiles and plan views, and be able to direct others in these efforts. This position may consist of both extensive manual labor including augering, examination of geotechnical borings, walking for long periods, and excavation with shovels. Office work will require the ability to sit for long periods and work with computer monitors.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • The candidate will be well versed in standard archaeological techniques to include the excavation of shovel test pits and test units for all phases of archaeological and geoarchaeological investigations.
  • Technical skills including soil and stratigraphic analysis.
  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • MA in Geology, Anthropology or a related field and ideally 8+ years of experience in geoarchaeological fieldwork, supervision, and analysis or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience.
  • Field staff must have the ability to communicate clearly and work well with others.
  • Field projects could be located anywhere in the US, and travel will be required.
  • The candidate must be prepared for field and office tasks.
