About The Position

The Geology Intern assists and advises on the geological aspects of development and production processes related to mining for copper, silver and gold. The Geology Intern is responsible for assisting with analyzing the geological makeup of the Milford Copper Skarn and assisting with production and ore control duties from the mining operations. Essential Functions Will be responsible for assessing and analyzing geological data in order to advise on short-term and long-term mine production and brownfields exploration plans. Ensure all procedures adhere to site-wide health, safety, and environmental regulations. This is a very flexible position and targeted towards someone with an ability to adapt to rapidly changing work priorities. Other duties and tasks as assigned and needed.

  • Ability to work as part of a team with people from both within and outside the geology department.
  • Be able to search for and apply data from multiple sources in analyzing project data and problem solving.
  • Consistent and methodical approach to geological data collection.
  • Must have good computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, and possess good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Registered in an undergraduate degree in geology, geoscience or a related subject is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with software packages such as ioGas, ArcGIS (or similar GIS program), and any 3D modeling packages (e.g Surpac, Datamine, Minesite, Vulcan, Micromine) helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and analyzing data obtained from drilling operations
  • In-pit mapping, blasthole logging, and map creation with subsequent comparison to local/regional geology
  • Sample collection (including from drilling activities and grab samples from pit-areas), preparation, shipment, and assay review, including QAQC verification
  • Using software to generate geological maps, cross-sections, and strip-logs
  • Standardizing both historical and contemporary data to ensure consistency
  • Participating in discussions around geological findings, ideas, and interpretations
  • Maintaining site-wide communication and co-operation with other Milford employees with a range of expertise including other geologists, engineers, metallurgy experts and mine workers
  • Keeping up to date with current geological research
  • Producing written reports and summaries as required
