About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Geologist to join their environmental team in Chicago, focusing on high-impact environmental projects. Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Geology or related field
  • 3+ years of direct environmental consulting experience or related work experience
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used for geological analyses
  • Familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of all environmental rules and regulations
  • Working knowledge of software typically used in environmental analyses and reporting
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-HR TRAINING
  • Working knowledge of Illinois state regulations (IEPA) is a must

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Indiana and/or Michigan environmental regulatory programs (IDEM / EGLE)

Responsibilities

  • Perform various project-related field and office tasks requiring the application of standard environmental principles and practices.
  • Independently conduct and complete all components of field work related to media sampling, including soil, soil gas, surface water, groundwater, and sediment.
  • Monitor well development and conduct low-flow groundwater sampling, soil gas sampling, and monitoring well slug testing.
  • Oversee excavation and contractor activities while ensuring compliance with health and safety programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of project planning and task documentation, including safety assessments and scope of work documents.
  • Conduct geological mapping and perform basic geologic analyses and interpretation.
  • Analyze and interpret geological data, including hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry.
  • Describe and classify soils and rocks accurately, including logging of soil and boring logs.
  • Prepare geologic maps and cross sections, including potentiometric surface maps and hydrographs.
  • Develop materials and assist in completing reports on finished field work.
