About The Position

The Geologist supports professional geologists by performing essential field and laboratory tasks. This role serves as an introduction to the practical aspects of geological work, offering hands-on experience in data collection, sample analysis, mapping, and report preparation. It is designed for individuals eager to build a foundation in geology while learning industry-standard practices under direct supervision from experienced professionals.

Requirements

  • Ability to record precise measurements, observations, and data with accuracy.
  • Basic familiarity with field instruments, laboratory equipment, and data management software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and report preparation.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team, learn from senior professionals, and contribute to group projects.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to observe, question, and contribute to problem-solving efforts during field and lab work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated exposure to basic geological field methods and laboratory techniques through academic projects or internships may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Related coursework and experience in hydrogeology, groundwater contaminant fate and transport, and groundwater hydraulics
  • Experience in hydrogeologic field investigations and groundwater sampling
  • Experience in environmental fields pertaining to regulated storage waste
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 40-hour and current 8-hour training

Responsibilities

  • Assist in field surveys and on-site data gathering, including the collection of soil, rock, and mineral samples.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment such as global positioning system devices, compasses, and other geological tools.
  • Record precise field observations and document findings to support geologic mapping and analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze samples in the laboratory following established protocols.
  • Assist with inventory and proper storage of collected samples and related equipment.
  • Input and manage geological data in databases and geographic information system software with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with senior geologists to prepare, review, and update field reports and technical documents.
  • Help maintain up-to-date project files, maps, and logs for internal review and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures during fieldwork and laboratory activities.
  • Stay informed of current industry practices and assist in the integration of emerging technologies under mentorship.
  • Ensure all activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory standards.
