At GHD we are looking for a Scientist/Geologist/Engineer to join the Environmental Contamination, Assessment and Remediation (CAR) team in our Seattle, WA office. Working with the CAR group in our Seattle office, this position offers a variety of projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will work diligently as an integral member of the GHD team to deliver meaningful information to our clients. You will engage with team members and contractors and be largely responsible for your own work. Duties will evolve with experience, and no day will be just like the last. In this role you will coordinate and perform field investigation activities to characterize and/or remediate cleanup facilities to achieve regulatory closure. This role will allow you to compile and interpret data in comparison to the environmental regulatory standards and prepare technical correspondence, including reports and proposals. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level in environmental engineering, environmental science or geology.
  • 3+ years of experience in related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Basic understanding of the Washington State Department of Ecology Model Toxics Control Act for site cleanups.
  • Experience in the technical delivery of contaminated site investigations and remediation, and environmental case closure.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and simultaneously managing multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a consulting environment.
  • Self-starter and willingness to work in a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be organized and have strong written and technical skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving – ability to identify multiple solutions to a problem.
  • Commitment to safety utilizing a behavior based safety (BBS) culture in all aspects of the job.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports.
  • Analyze specific problems and issues to find the best solutions. Solutions could be technical or professional in nature.
  • Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace.
  • Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
  • Provide the design of exploration programs, including risk assessment and budgeting.
  • Gather information and resources, and draft and complete standard requests for bid solicitation requests for proposal (RFP) and requests for tender (RFT) on the requester side.
  • Collect a range of samples for laboratory testing and undertake testing in accordance with statutory frameworks and best practice to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.
  • Participate in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to begin to build own expertise.
