The PositionGeologist - Mining & Resource Planning Job Summary Location: Fernley, NV (or Western US based) Position Overview: The Geologist in the MRP Team is responsible for conducting geological assessments, evaluations, and interpretations to support the long-term exploration and development strategy of mining projects. This role involves working closely with senior management, resource and reserve teams, and other departments to assess potential mineral deposits and contribute to strategic planning initiatives for the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s in Geology or related field
  • 5-15 years of experience in exploration geology and/or mine production geology; candidates with 10+ years of experience highly encouraged to apply
  • Strong field mapping skills (surface, pit mapping)
  • Strong proficiency in data interpretation, geological modeling, and resource estimation.
  • Proficiency in 3D geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, or Surpac) is required.
  • Strong Proficiency with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and geological database management (e.g., MX Deposit, acQuire, Maxwell)
  • Knowledge of exploration techniques, drilling methodologies, and regional geological systems.
  • Familiarity with mine planning processes and integration of exploration data into mine design.
  • Ability to reconcile resource modifying factors and block models as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-disciplinary team.
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations as required for fieldwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Active or currently holding an en-route status for professional registration (e.g., PG, P.Geo, GIT, or CPG) is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Candidates with Industrial mineral experience encouraged
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary team environments within the mining industry.
  • Familiarity with mineral resource and reserve classification standards.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in exploration activities.

Responsibilities

  • Geological Data Collection and Analysis: Conduct/Manage regional geological mapping, core drilling, logging, sampling, and data collection to support exploration and planning activities.
  • Analyze geological maps, aerial imagery, and geophysical data to interpret regional mineralization trends.
  • Conduct geological modeling and resource estimation using software such as leapfrog, or Surpac.
  • Exploration Planning and Strategy: Work with senior exploration and planning teams to define long-term exploration goals and objectives.
  • Develop and execute exploration programs that support regional resource growth and long-term mine planning.
  • Coordinate and prioritize drill programs, field surveys, and other exploration activities to enhance the regional resource base.
  • Geological Risk Management: Assess geological risks and uncertainties within the region and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Provide insights into regional geology that help to inform decision-making on exploration priorities, resource development, and potential investments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with mine planning, environmental, and engineering teams to ensure a seamless integration of geological data into regional planning.
  • Work with external consultants, contractors, and specialists as needed to support exploration initiatives.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and updates for senior management and stakeholders on regional exploration progress and findings.
  • Ensure compliance with industry safety standards, local regulations, and company protocols in all exploration activities.
  • Technology and Innovation: Stay current on advances in exploration technology, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Evaluate and implement new geological tools and software to improve exploration efficiency and accuracy.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Awareness: Ensure exploration activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to safety, health, and environmental regulations.
