About The Position

This position serves as the Geologist/Hydrologist II for the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. Under general supervision provides field work, technical assistance, training, and oversight for field operations associated with site rehabilitation of petroleum releases.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering and one (1) year of related experience.
  • A master's degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology or geological engineering.
  • Direct experience with operation and maintenance of field measurement equipment (organic vapor analyzers, pH/conductivity meters, interface probes, etc.).
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform field activities in varied conditions and train new staff in field activities.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of basic hydro geological principles, basic geochemistry, computers and ground-water modeling programs, and the ground-water resources of South Carolina.
  • Considerable knowledge of ground-water protection regulations and policies as well as a detailed knowledge of the Underground Storage Tank Regulations and the SUPERB Act.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Conducts site visits for the purpose of conducting or supervising field activities a t petroleum release sites involving well construction, sampling, environmental measurements, health and safety matters, and quality assurance/quality control audits. Act as the UST Management Division's field operations advisor.
  • Provide technical assistance and information to internal and external customers. Provide technical training to personnel in the areas of field activities to ensure compliance with the UST Management Division of Programmatic Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining field equipment. Responsible for Keeping maintenance and repair records for field equipment. Responsible for evaluation, procurement and purchasing of field analytical and health/safety equipment for the UST Management Division.
  • Provide technical assistance and evaluation for the CNFA verification project and provide as needed project management activities for petroleum releases.
  • Performs other job duties to include assisting management staff with special projects as assigned.
