This Geologist/Hydrogeologist position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing energy and mineral resource investigations related to economic geology; to provide geologic data and interpretations to agencies, businesses, and the public in the area of economic geology; and to assist the State Geologist/Section Chief and Division Director in related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the results of independent energy and mineral resource studies and present these data and conclusions in public and professional presentations, summary reports, and publications of various types including geologic maps and GIS datasets.
  • Recommend through the State Geologist/Section Chief to the Division Director, priorities for and scope of statewide energy and mineral resource studies and mapping.
  • Responsible for project management and team leadership of permanent and/or temporary staff as assigned.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories in economic geology, energy and mineral resource exploration/development/extraction, and related studies involving technical geological knowledge.
  • Considerable knowledge of geological research processes, including a thorough knowledge of data gathering techniques and procedures, along with the skill and ability to plan research projects in energy and mineral resource identification and estimation.
  • Considerable knowledge in geologic mapping and modeling, as well as understanding and use of geophysical and geochemical exploration tools and techniques; and the ability to analyze, manipulate, and evaluate scientific information/data, including geological data and processes concerning energy and mineral resources found in the variety of geological environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or engineering with 30 credit hours of geological science course work from an accredited college or university.
