The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys is seeking a Geologist 2 with expertise in mineralogy and geoscience technologies to assist in a new hyperspectral scanning program at the Geologic Materials Center (GMC). This role involves scanning geologic materials to generate infrared spectral data sets for mineralogical analysis, overseeing instrument operations, and collaborating with various teams to improve standard operating procedures. The position is integral to a high-level research program aimed at enhancing understanding of Alaska's geology and supporting resource development opportunities.

  • Scan core boxes and other geologic materials to generate infrared spectral data sets.
  • Work with the senior geologist to oversee instrument operations.
  • Direct technicians providing materials flow support.
  • Interpret mineralogy and process scans with QA/QC.
  • Help define and improve standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with the GMC warehouse manager on a daily basis.
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological engineering, or related fields.
  • One year of entry professional level experience in geology or related fields.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with hyperspectral scanning technology.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions.
