About The Position

The Geographic Information Systems Scientist position at WSP USA involves supporting environmental and engineering projects through GIS analytical skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related degree/certification.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency using ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • General awareness of AutoCAD, Python, Visual Basic, Arcade, R, or SQL programming.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft 365 skills, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI.
  • Analytical skills and familiarity with research techniques and data modeling.
  • Creative problem-solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with business writing and office automation software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online (AGOL) environment.
  • Customization of GIS software using Python.
  • Experience with non-GIS engineering software.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL-Server or EQuIS.
  • Familiarity or experience with FEMA RiskMAP.
  • CAD/BIM/Digital Engineering Application Experience.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Arcade.
  • Experience with presenting GIS findings/results in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management, and analysis.
  • Create high-quality maps and GIS analysis for engineering and environmental projects.
  • Manage GIS database design and management, qualitative/quantitative analysis, mapping, and data visualization.
  • Maintain metadata and best practices to support systems and data.
  • Coordinate GIS workload for Portland Maine projects and balance staffing needs with local leadership.
  • Mentor junior GIS staff and review project tasks.
  • Proactively strategize and anticipate risks and issues.
  • Communicate with project team members to define data needs and project requirements.
  • Engage with Subject Matter Experts and technical support staff as needed.
  • Participate in client meetings when required.
