About The Position

The Geographic Information System Consultant will be responsible for the planning, deployment, and support of the enterprise GIS platform within the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This role involves maintaining GIS web services, managing the enterprise GIS platform, ensuring platform security, and providing GIS subject matter expertise to support spatial analysis and mapping for department operations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and four years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or programming.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer sciences or management information systems with three years of relevant experience.
  • A master's degree in computer sciences or management information systems with two years of relevant experience.
  • A doctorate in computer sciences or management information systems with one year of relevant experience.
  • Five years of relevant experience with completion of a vocational/technical program or college coursework in data processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS platform at the enterprise level.
  • Proficiency with HTML5/JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of REST, XML, JSON, GeoJSON, or other communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of enterprise SDE geodatabases (SQL Server / Oracle).
  • Knowledge of geocoding requirements related to address systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deploy, and support the enterprise GIS platform including software, hardware, and web services.
  • Maintain department GIS web services and license manager for concurrent GIS users.
  • Manage the enterprise GIS platform comprised of geodatabases, web services, and mapping applications.
  • Maintain platform security and user access.
  • Stay updated on changing technologies and best practices to make recommendations to supervisors and staff.
  • Develop and document standards and procedures for GIS products.
  • Administer and support external spatial data resources, including researching and acquiring spatial data.
  • Use GIS spatial data management tools to transform and develop spatial data.
  • Direct metadata and administrative documentation for operational spatial data.
  • Coordinate with IT sections to ensure full support of the enterprise GIS platform.
  • Administer GIS customer accounts and manage contract aspects.
  • Provide GIS training and support to department staff.
