UCLA Extension is recognized as one of the premier programs in continuing education, serving over 35,000 students annually with approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs. The institution aims to meet the diverse professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of a wide range of nontraditional students, as well as organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles area. The current opening is for an instructor in the Geography discipline, focusing on the exploration of human impacts on the natural environment and the significant consequences of environmental modifications on human activities. This course will utilize case studies to address real-world environmental challenges, providing students with transferable UC credit. The instructor will be responsible for updating the course syllabus in collaboration with the UCLA Extension Program Director, preparing and delivering course materials, and communicating the teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students. Timely feedback on assessments is crucial, as is the posting of individual student scores on the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) within a week of assessments. The instructor will evaluate student performance, assign grades, and ensure that final grades are submitted within two weeks after the course concludes. Additionally, the instructor will maintain communication with students regarding their inquiries and learning needs, as well as with administrative staff regarding course logistics. The position requires a commitment to cultural humility and the use of effective teaching methodologies to support a diverse student population. Instructors are expected to stay current in their field, complete necessary administrative tasks, and create an inclusive classroom environment.
