The primary responsibilities of this role are to evaluate and develop methodologies relating to sequencing for genomic characterization of plants. The role involves assessing and enhancing existing workflows with a focus on automation to improve efficiency and accuracy. The incumbent will evaluate automated laboratory scheduling software to orchestrate next generation sequencing workflows and handle installation and integration of automated devices while ensuring laboratory stability. Additionally, the position contributes directly to the development of innovations that improve efficiency and reduce unit cost, drives experimental design with guidance from senior scientists, and has primary or shared project responsibility for executing experiments on next generation sequencing workflows with assistance from scientists in the Genotyping Systems Innovation team. The role also requires understanding and discussing sequencing and genomic data, collaborating with computational scientists as needed for analysis, and providing an assessment of workflows with a presentation to the greater Precision Genomics team at the end of the Co-op.
