About The Position

The position of Genetics Tech is responsible for following all designated policy and procedures established by CLIA, also helping assist Director of Lab Data Analytics and Technical Support in managing day to day workflow and managing lower-level technicians.

Requirements

  • One of the following is required:
  • Doctoral, Master’s, Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a laboratory science
  • Education or experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in a laboratory science and at least one of the following:
  • Graduated from a clinical laboratory training program
  • Three months of experience in each specialty of high complexity testing performed

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates appropriate use of information systems (LIS, EMR, software, internet, etc.)
  • Maintain laboratory LIS user access.
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s procedures for handling and processing specimens, analyzing, and reporting test results, and maintaining patient records.
  • Maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies.
  • As such, documents all quality control activities, including instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Orders all supplies (reagents, etc.)
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Generates proper and efficient workflows.
  • Maintains laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas, identifying peak and slack periods.
  • Maintains laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Complies with all accreditations (CLIA, API, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA) standards and complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Provides administrative support for clinics by acting as manager on call for any question relative to results provided by PTCOA Lab.
  • Reports on productivity, quality control and overall operation of laboratory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
