A Brief Overview The Genetic Counselor provides expert genetic education, risk assessment, counseling, and psychosocial support to patients and families in inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Clinical responsibilities span general genetics, metabolic, and various specialty and multidisciplinary clinics. The counselor interprets genetic and genomic data, facilitates informed decision-making, and collaborates closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to support the diagnosis, management, and follow-up care for individuals with or at risk for genetic conditions. The Genetic Counselor is a team-oriented professional with strong communication, organizational, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
