About The Position
The Division of Clinical Genetics at Columbia University is seeking a dedicated and skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team in New York, NY. This full-time position involves working closely with both inpatient and outpatient settings to provide comprehensive genetic counseling services. The Genetic Counselor will collaborate with division physicians to respond to requests for inpatient consultations, coordinate laboratory orders, and assist in gathering patient histories. This role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate genetic testing and counseling, which is essential for informed decision-making regarding their health and that of their families. In this position, the Genetic Counselor will prepare for patient appointments by reviewing medical records and assisting with clinical consultations. They will draft consultation notes and write patient result letters, ensuring clear communication of findings to patients and their families. Additionally, the Genetic Counselor will complete lab requisition forms, coordinate genetic testing for patients and families, and manage the sending out of specimens and notification of results. Participation in weekly case conference meetings and specialty clinics is also expected, as well as entering patient information into the division database. The role includes assisting with the orientation of Genetics fellows and performing related duties as assigned or requested.
