About The Position

The Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) works in direct partnership with the cancer genetic counselors at the Department of Clinical Genetics. The GCA is responsible for the collection of patient information prior to the clinical genetics evaluation, data entry of medical and family history intake, coordination of patient care and facilitation of genetic testing and results disclosure. The GCA will help build relationships between patients and the Department of Clinical Genetics. The genetic counselor assistant will also facilitate workflow of clinic patients as needed and research projects in the Department of Clinical Genetics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • HS diploma with 3 years or more of relevant clinical experience in clinical genetics, OR an Associate's degree with 1 year or more of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor‘s degree with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • For those with a HS diploma or Associate‘s degree, the Genetic Assistant Online Certificate program must be completed at hire or within 2 years of hire or job entry date.
  • Experience in medical facility, or familiarity with medical terminology, reviewing medical records, test requisitions, pathology reports.
  • Interest or knowledge of genetics/genetic concepts.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both over the telephone and in person.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with a team.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in order to enhance the patient experience.
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize work under pressure.
  • Minimum Required Experience: 3 Years

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Genetic Assistant Online Certificate is NOT required for those with a Bachelors‘ degree.
  • Bilingual or multilingual desired.
