The Genetic Counseling Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to a team of genetic counselors serving fertility patients. Working under the supervision of licensed genetic counselors and/or physicians, this role assists with coordinating genetic testing, managing results, supporting patient communication, and maintaining accurate medical records. The position offers exposure to reproductive genetics and fertility treatment workflows, including opportunities to learn about genetic counseling in the context of family building, while contributing to efficient, compassionate, and patient-centered care. Performs administrative and basic duties necessary to assist team in providing counseling and risk assessment for genetic conditions to patients and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Biology preferred or Bachelor's Degree Genetics preferred
  • experience working with patients and/or medical office 1-2 years preferred
  • Knowledgeable of community resources available for patients and families.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records, test requisitions, pathology reports.
  • Empathetic with strong customer service skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manages lists of established genetics patients and monitors status of pending clinical work-up.
  • Reviews CMFM schedule for potential patients needing prenatal genetic visits.
  • Serve as a liaison between referring providers and genetic counseling team.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains cancer genetic counseling services.
  • Works cross functionally with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians and others regarding testing, status updates, delays, referrals, and sample collection.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all clients.
  • Assists with research studies and educational projects.
