About The Position

Under the supervision of the Genetic Counselor Supervisor, the Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) provides specialized support to the genetic counselors in the Departments of Clinical Genomics, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and the Center for Individualized Medicine. Individuals within the clinical setting assist with clinical case preparation, attain family histories, help facilitate genetic testing and track clinical test results. Individuals in the laboratory setting assist with test utilization management, provide client support, perform case management, assist with genetic test resulting and reporting, and contribute to test implementation and maintenance. Individuals in the research setting assist with research activities associated with formal research protocols, research studies and return of research results to patients. Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is pleased to announce a Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) opportunity within the Research and Translational Genetic Counseling Unit (RTGCU), part of Clinical Research. This position is embedded within a growing team that supports Mayo Clinic’s research shield in advancing and translating genomic medicine into clinical care. Under the supervision of a Genetic Counselor Supervisor, the selected candidate will contribute to the implementation of genomic services alongside a team of experienced genetic counselors and genetic counseling assistants. The team supports multiple pilot programs as well as large-scale population genomics research initiatives. The GCA will assist with patient triage, coordination of genetic testing documentation, and case tracking, and will also have direct interaction with patients and research participants to support study activities and care coordination. These programs are expected to expand, further improving access to genetic testing and counseling while helping to reduce existing barriers. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the rapidly evolving field of individualized medicine. As a hybrid role, this is a work arrangement that supports a combination of offsite (remote) and on-site work according to business needs. On-site expectations are determined by the supervisor and will be discussed during the interview.
