About The Position

The position involves performing maintenance, repairs, programming, and preventive maintenance on all makes and models of backup generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS). The technician will be responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly run sheets, PM services on various generators and ATS, load testing generators annually, troubleshooting and repairing breakdowns, ECM replacements, and programming work. The role also includes daily paperwork, parts list preparation, transfer switch programming, megger testing, reading wire diagrams, and installing new control systems for generators and ATS switches. Emissions testing is also part of the responsibilities, which must be conducted annually.

Requirements

  • Basic electricity training/certifications or years of experience.
  • Basic engine training/certifications or years of experience.
  • Generator fundamentals training/certifications or years of experience.
  • Applied failure analysis training/certifications or years of experience.
  • Computer programming for ATS, Cat ET, Cummins, John Deere, PSI, and company computer programs for reprogramming ECMs and controllers.
  • Electric power classes training 1, 2, 3 certifications or years of experience.
  • ATS and switchgear certifications or years of experience.
  • ACERT engine and mechanical, HUI engine systems knowledge.
  • Thermal imaging skills.
  • Experience with gaseous engines (natural gas, LP) certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience or relevant training in generator maintenance and repair.
  • Thorough understanding of generator fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 110 standards for life safety checks.
  • Proficiency in reading and using ladder logic and one-line diagrams.
  • Experience with software for programming ECMs and generator controllers.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in programming and troubleshooting ATS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly run sheets.
