About The Position

Tri-State is an electric utility. We have a Generation Engineering Intern opportunity for 2026. Students who have successfully completed two (2) to three (3) years of undergraduate study towards a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Seniors who will be graduating in December or are planning to attend graduate school in the Fall are also encouraged to apply. This summer position offers students hands on experience to work in and learn various aspects of Tri-State’s Generation Engineering department.

  • Strong computer skills including AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design, development, execution, and/or analysis of engineering projects at power generation facilities.
  • Support other engineering staff with inspections and operational issues within the fleet.
  • Participate in operational troubleshooting and problem-solving for power generation equipment.
  • Monitor and analyze process data and work to support reliable and efficient plant operations.
  • Follow established safety procedures.
  • Review, verify, and update engineering drawings, including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Assist and perform visual and quantitative equipment inspections at power generation facilities.
  • Analyzing plant heat rate for combined cycle and simple cycle facilities.
  • Pump and/or motor reliability analysis and maintenance strategy.
