About The Position

As our Senior Human Resources Generalist, you'll serve as a strategic partner and subject matter expert to employees, management, and applicants across the full employee lifecycle. You'll lead complex HR initiatives including comprehensive leave administration, benefits administration, training and development programs, compensation analytics, performance management, investigations, and HRIS system optimization. This role requires deep expertise in HR best practices, exceptional judgment in sensitive matters, and the ability to independently manage sophisticated projects while mentoring HR team members. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, driving continuous improvement and ensuring compliance while strengthening our people-first culture. This position is based on-site at the Greens Creek Mine, a remote underground operation located 18 miles south of Juneau, Alaska, on Admiralty Island. Our HR team plays a vital role in supporting over 530 employees who live and work in a remote camp setting. About Us The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquarters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role: Strategic HR leadership. Lead comprehensive HR programs including leave administration, training development, compensation analytics, and performance management systems with minimal oversight. Leave program expertise. Serve as the primary administrator for all leave programs including FMLA, Alaska Paid Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and Short-Term Disability, ensuring compliance and providing expert guidance to employees and management. Training and development of ownership. Design, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive training programs for all employee levels. Create engaging learning materials using advanced platforms, facilitate sessions, and measure training effectiveness. Advanced recruitment leadership. Manage end-to-end recruitment for both exempt and hourly/non-exempt positions, develop sourcing strategies, build talent pipelines, and continuously refine the candidate experience. Compensation analytics. Conduct market analysis, participate in compensation surveys, analyze pay equity, develop salary recommendations, and provide data-driven insights for compensation decisions. Complex investigations. Lead sensitive workplace investigations including harassment, discrimination, policy violations, and employee relations matters with independence, discretion, and sound judgment. Performance management systems. Oversee performance review cycles, coach managers on difficult conversations, develop performance improvement plans, and ensure consistency in evaluation processes. HRIS systems development and super user. Serve as HRIS subject matter expert and super user, lead system implementations and upgrades, optimize workflows, develop custom reports, train users, and troubleshoot complex technical issues. HR mentorship and team leadership. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to HR team members. Lead cross-functional projects and serve as backup to the HR Manager on key initiatives. Policy development and compliance. Research and draft HR policies, ensure regulatory compliance with federal and state employment laws, and serve as an advisor on complex legal and compliance matters.
