The North Carolina Aquariums at Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a General Utility Worker. This position reports to the Building Superintendent and is responsible for maintaining the building, exhibits, and grounds of the aquarium in a clean and operating manner.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience in the performance of a variety of manual tasks that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience.
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required.
  • Recommended candidate will be subject to a background check prior to hiring.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating basic electrical power tools and/or carpentry hand tools.
  • Experience cleaning (such as office, business, or commercial cleaning).

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning floors, walls, offices, and public areas. This includes restrooms for staff and public, food service areas, teaching labs, gift shops, auditorium, courtyards, admissions area, husbandry quarantine and holding areas, and the natural habitat area (greenhouse)
  • Routine cleaning of all windows, doors, exhibits, etc.
  • Removing trash from public and staff containers
  • Cleaning furniture and fixtures in office and work areas
  • Grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, mulching, raking, planting, pruning, and watering of plants
  • Maintaining and cleaning state vehicles
  • Setting up rooms, conferences for public and private meetings, and events both inside and outside of the facility
  • Conducting minor maintenance and repairs on the facility and grounds, including unclogging drains, replacing fixtures and bulbs, sanding and painting walls and exhibits, laying carpet and tile, and other repair needs.
