About The Position

The General Utility Worker is responsible for ensuring the highest level of cleanliness, organization, and sanitation across the entire O-Hill Dining Hall operation. This position is crucial to supporting the culinary and service teams by maintaining clean dishes, keeping kitchen floors safe and sanitary, and assisting with restocking inventory and trash removal. Requirements

  • Demonstrates an understanding of basic sanitation procedures
  • Must be able to follow basic safety procedures due to exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Dishwashing and Warewashing
  • Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing equipment (dish machine).
  • Scrape, stack, and wash all dishware, glassware, and serving utensils according to established sanitation standards, ensuring proper water temperature and chemical levels.
  • Put away clean dishes, trays, and silver to their designated locations in a neat and organized manner.
  • Monitor and ensure all warewashing areas are kept clean, dry, and safe.
  • Sanitation and Deep Cleaning
  • Kitchen and Service Areas: Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors throughout the kitchen, dish room, storage areas, and service lines to prevent slips and ensure hygiene.
  • Equipment Cleaning: Perform deep cleaning of kitchen equipment, including walls, exhaust hoods, mats, and walk-in refrigerators/freezers, following daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
  • Restrooms and Common Areas: Assist with maintaining cleanliness in employee common areas and, as assigned, public restrooms.
  • Support and Logistics
  • Waste Management: Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and compost from all kitchen and dining areas throughout the shift.
  • Stocking: Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking inventory, including breaking down boxes and organizing dry storage areas.
  • Relief: Provide immediate support to other areas of the dining hall as directed by the manager, such as transporting food carts, setting up buffets, or clearing tables during peak service times.
