About The Position

This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This posting is for a General Utility Worker position located in the Rowan Equipment Sup Shop. Duties involve a variety of manual tasks in the upkeep of the Departments standards to include sweeping, mopping, dusting, removal of trash, cleaning of windows, cleaning of restrooms, yard maintenance, washing of equipment, light mechanical repairs and assisting VERT’s in various projects, picking up parts, and performs other related duties as required. Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety-toed shoes are required.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations
  • Ability to prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records
  • Ability to understand both written and oral instructions
  • Ability to move parts and material necessary to repair and maintain equipment
  • Ability to safely operate equipment for testing purposes
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to providing a safe working environment by leading by example
  • Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
  • Safety-toed shoes required
  • Education and/or experience in the performance of a variety of manual tasks that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, etc.
  • Experience operating power tools such as lawn mowers, hand trimmers, air compressors, chainsaw, weed eater, skill saw, drill, etc.
  • Experience performing manual labor
