About The Position

The General Utility Worker is an essential support role responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and operational readiness of the Gaston Food Hub's kitchen, serving lines, and dining areas. This position ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations, manages the dishwashing and waste disposal process, and provides vital assistance to the culinary and service teams.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the commercial dishwashing machine efficiently, ensuring all dishes, utensils, glassware, and serving pieces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Manually wash large pots, pans, and kitchen tools (pot washing) following proper three-compartment sink procedures.
  • Restock all clean dishes, silverware, and glassware to designated service areas accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate chemical levels in the dish machine and pot wash sinks.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors in the kitchen, dishroom, and storage areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and transport waste, including recycling and breaking down cardboard boxes, to the designated disposal areas.
  • Clean walls, vents, filters, shelving, and storage containers as required by sanitation schedules.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all common areas, restrooms, and exterior perimeter areas.
  • Assist the Cooks and Food Service Workers by transporting supplies, food items, and equipment throughout the facility.
  • Occasionally assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, or cutting vegetables under direct supervision.
  • Report any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards immediately to the Lead Cook or Supervisor.
