About The Position

General Transportation Tech I: Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. General Transportation Tech II: Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with "N" endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License within 120 calendar days after 6 months of continuous employment.
  • Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with "N" endorsement at the time of application.
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
  • Using basic mathematical fundamentals
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Follow verval and written instructions
  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
  • Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

  • 1 YEAR transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
