About The Position

We are seeking a reliable and flexible General Technician to support a variety of field and technical services projects. This role includes work such as private utility locating, technical products & services locating, leak detection/investigations, leak surveys, and other technical field services. This position is structured as project-based, assignment-driven work. Individuals are engaged for specific field assignments or projects as business needs arise. There is no guarantee of ongoing or continuous employment between assignments. Training will be provided and paid for, as needed. Assignments are offerred based on project demand, typically with 24 hour notice. Emergency projects may have a 8-10 hour notice prior to scheduled work. Individuals may accept or decline assignments based on their availability. There may be periods with no assignments Assignments hours will vary depnending on project scope and demand

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding field work, including lifting nd carrying moderately heavy objects (e.g., up to 50 lbs.), walkding and standing for extended periods on uneven surfaces, frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching, nd working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Reliable, dependable, and flexible availability
  • Ability to work with 8-24 hours notice (prior to scheduled work)
  • Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Must have a legal state registered & insured personal vehicle to travel to and from job sites (mileage reimburse at the current IRS standard rate - $0.725/mile)
  • Must have a valid state driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in utility locating, leak detection, or similar field work
  • Familiarity with reading utility maps or technical documents
  • Experience using RF locating equipment or similar tools

Responsibilities

  • Perform/assist with private utility locaintg usind industry equipment
  • Perform/assist with Technical Products & Services locating using industry equipment
  • Perform/Assist with leak detection/investigation and leak survey work
  • Support other technical serices and field-based projects
  • Read and interpret utility maps, prints, and technical documents
  • Operate basic field equipment (Radio Frequency locators, voltage meters, leak detection tools, etc.)
  • Document completed work (via notes, photos, sketches, or digital recordings)
  • Perform light excavation when necessary
  • Travel to various job sites in the Greater Rochester area
  • Wear PPE (provided by Company) and maintain a professionl appearance and work safely in all conditions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
