About The Position

The General Surgeon is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and performing surgical procedures to address a wide range of medical conditions. This role involves patient education, operative care, and coordination with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The surgeon plays a critical role in both emergency and elective surgical care and participates actively in the full continuum of perioperative management.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree (required)
  • Board Certification in General Surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties (required)
  • Completion of a 5-year General Surgery residency program (required)
  • Valid state medical license (required)
  • Active DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances (required)
  • Fluoroscopy Supervisor & Operator Permit (required for relevant procedures)
  • Completion of USMLE (required)
  • Minimum 3 years of independent practice as a General Surgeon post-residency
  • Proficiency in a range of general surgical procedures, emergency surgeries, and patient care techniques
  • Exceptional hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and visuospatial awareness
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Organizational skills to manage caseloads and surgical schedules
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to maintain professionalism under stress
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation tools
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting during procedures
  • Extended periods in the operating room under high-intensity conditions
  • Regular exposure to biohazards and sterile environments (OSHA Category I)
  • Participation in rotating on-call and weekend schedules

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient examinations to assess the need for surgical intervention
  • Review medical history and determine appropriate surgical procedures
  • Educate patients on surgical options, risks, and recovery expectations
  • Perform surgical procedures adhering to established clinical and ethical standards
  • Prescribe pre-operative and post-operative treatments
  • Ensure aseptic technique and compliance with operating room protocols
  • Collaborate with surgical, nursing, and support staff for coordinated patient care
  • Monitor patient progress during recovery and adjust treatment as necessary
  • Participate in on-call coverage per hospital policy
  • Maintain documentation and records in accordance with regulatory and legal standards
  • Support hospital quality and patient safety initiatives
  • Promote disease prevention and health education in alignment with community health goals
