Lead Field Operations on Major Mechanical Projects Vertical Mechanical Group is seeking an experienced General Superintendent – Mechanical & Plumbing to oversee field operations across our commercial construction projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned field leader who thrives in fast-paced construction environments and has a strong background in HVAC and plumbing system installation. The General Superintendent will provide leadership to project superintendents, foremen, and field teams while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You will play a critical role in coordinating manpower, maintaining jobsite standards, and driving the successful installation of complex mechanical systems. Typical Projects at VMG VMG specializes in large-scale commercial mechanical and plumbing construction project s , including: Commercial Office Buildings Higher Education Facilities Healthcare and Life Science Buildings Mixed-Use and Multifamily Developments Government and Institutional Projects Major Renovations and Mechanical System Upgrades Mechanical project scopes typically range from $5M to $30M+, involving complex HVAC systems, plumbing infrastructure, and integrated building technologies.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of experience in commercial mechanical or plumbing construction
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent or General Superintendent on large commercial projects
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems including hydronic, VRF, ductwork, and mechanical equipment installation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and field teams simultaneously
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Deep understanding of construction drawings, installation practices, and field coordination
  • Mechanical or Plumbing Master License preferred
  • Experience with construction management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms is a plus
  • Ability to travel to projects throughout the DMV region

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for field operations across commercial HVAC and plumbing projects
  • Oversee mechanical and plumbing installations to ensure safety, quality, and schedule performance
  • Coordinate manpower planning, subcontractors, and material delivery to maintain project efficiency
  • Support and mentor superintendents, foremen, and field crews
  • Review and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, and project schedules
  • Manage jobsite communication including RFIs, change orders, schedule updates, and punch lists
  • Work closely with Project Executives and Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Identify and resolve field challenges proactively to keep projects moving forward
  • Promote and enforce VMG's strong safety culture and jobsite standards
  • Support collaboration between field teams, project management, and trade partners
