About The Position

The General Superintendent plays a key leadership role within our Field Operations team, overseeing all field activities across multiple projects to ensure excellence in safety, quality, and delivery. This role provides mentorship and guidance to Superintendents and Project Teams, ensuring that every Northstar project is executed to the highest standards and aligned with our values. The ideal candidate is a seasoned construction leader who thrives on developing others, anticipating challenges before they arise, and creating a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement across every job site.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction, including 5+ years in a field leadership or senior superintendent role.
  • Strong understanding of ground-up and tenant improvement projects in the commercial, retail, restaurant, or medical sectors.
  • Expertise in construction means and methods, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Proficiency with technology tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to balance hands-on oversight and strategic guidance.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Model and reinforce Northstar’s Core Values across all project teams.
  • Mentor and coach Superintendents to strengthen leadership, field planning, and accountability.
  • Promote unity and alignment between field and office teams through consistent communication and collaboration.
  • Provide oversight for all ongoing projects, ensuring safety, schedule, and quality standards are met.
  • Visit jobsites regularly to review performance, ensure compliance, and support Superintendents.
  • Lead by example in proactive problem-solving, jobsite organization, and field documentation.
  • Review and resolve plan discrepancies, field conflicts, and quality control issues.
  • Support implementation and refinement of standardized field procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure pre-construction planning and field execution are aligned.
  • Analyze performance data and provide feedback to improve operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Facilitate field coordination meetings to maintain alignment across teams.
  • Provide progress reports and schedule updates to leadership as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners, and inspectors.
