About The Position

For almost 50 years, San Antonio Shoemakers, a San Antonio, Texas based company, has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality footwear. SAS has an opening for a Merchandiser for our General Store in San Antonio. The Merchandiser is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and purchasing seasonal products that reflect the store’s commitment to quality, authenticity, and local craftsmanship. This role focuses on identifying and curating Made in Texas and Made in the ISA merchandise that resonates with customers who value American-made goods, regional identity, and sustainable supply chains. The ideal candidate has a sharp business sense with a passion for local products and community-minded retailing.

Requirements

  • One year experience in retail buying, merchandising, or product sourcing, preferably with local or American- made product lines.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to authenticity and quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing product cycles and supplier dynamics.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills for collaborating with vendors, artisans, and internal teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify products that celebrate Texas-made and USA-made craftsmanship, aligning with market trends, store values, and customer preferences.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with local artisans, Texas-based manufacturers, and U.S. suppliers to secure high-quality, distinctive products at competitive prices.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with the team to ensure consistent product availability while maintaining balanced stock levels.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regional market opportunities, and customer interests to guide product selections and buying strategies.
  • Ensure all purchased products meet store standards for quality, authenticity, and origin verification (e.g., Made in USA compliance).
  • Analyze sales data to assess product performance, identify top-selling categories, and refine buying strategies to maximize profitability.
  • Partner with store teams to gather customer feedback, promote local product stories, and strengthen community engagement through merchandise offerings.
