About The Position

This position is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and/or NIV testing at a technical level not requiring constant supervision, under the general direction of a radiologist and radiology administration. In accordance with the mission and philosophy of Catholic Healthcare West, the Sonographer is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for performing diagnostic testing used in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a formal Sonography course or have completed four years of progressively responsible experience in an ultrasound department (within the last five years).
  • Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
  • Completion of annual safety training.
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasonographers (RDMS) or RDCS or RVT in at least one field of specialization (i.e. Echocardiography/Doppler, Abdominal or OB/Gyn) or eligibility for certification and must achieve certification within one year of eligibility.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures and/or NIV testing.
  • Work under the general direction of a radiologist and radiology administration.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for performing diagnostic testing.
  • Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
