About The Position

The General Service Associate at Boston Medical Center (BMC) performs a wide range of building and environmental services to ensure that all facilities are operating at a standard that enhances the quality of patient care. This role involves duties beyond those of a general cleaner, including the use of industrial vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers, and other hospital-approved equipment for tasks of moderate difficulty in installing, maintaining, and repairing hospital equipment. The Environmental Service Department supports BMC’s mission by providing daily disinfection, maintaining cleanliness in public areas, and ensuring floors are shiny, creating a clean and pleasant atmosphere. Staff in this department connect with patients, visitors, and clinical staff daily to ensure high-quality services, prioritizing patient safety and creating a welcoming environment for everyone.

Requirements

  • Work requires the ability to read, follow oral and written instructions in English at a level acquired through the completion of elementary school
  • Ability to learn and perform basic housekeeping practices and understands the policies and procedures of the hospital.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in floor care, carpet care preferred
  • HS Diploma or completion of GED preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs project work including, but not limited to, floor refinishing, carpet extraction, etc.
  • Maintains stock of all housekeeping supplies in assigned areas and maintains housekeeping closets and equipment.
  • Prepares patient rooms for occupancy upon discharge or transfer.
  • Performs daily floor care maintenance.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and waste as needed.
  • Move furniture, boxes, etc. in order to clean.
  • Installs, cleans, maintains and repairs all designated housekeeping equipment.
  • Installs patient cubicle curtains.
  • Performs all functions of the General Cleaner.
