The role of a General Merchandise Team Leader can provide you with the skills and experience of guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest first culture on your team, retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies, and leading a team by planning department(s) daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver sales goals. No two days are ever the same, but a typical day most likely will include executing daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement, educating your team on operational procedures, assessing reporting to identify gaps in GM processes, and collaborating with all teams and leaders to ensure the store is guest ready.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Execute daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
  • Educate your team on operational procedures affecting inventory management and store profitability.
  • Help assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and develop a plan to resolve.
  • Lead the daily execution of tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, and organizing the backroom.
  • Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes.
  • Model a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors.
  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests and engaging with them.
