About The Position

Position Purpose: The General Manager holds comprehensive responsibility for all facets of a geographical branch operation, including health and safety, environmental compliance, and overall Profit & Loss (P&L) management. This role encompasses oversight of various operational services and includes the hiring and training of subordinate staff. A core function is to assist in establishing annual goals and objectives, specifically focusing on maintaining and improving P&L ratios in alignment with regional targets to boost profit margins while simultaneously reducing costs. The General Manager works closely with site Project Managers to guarantee operational excellence and successful project execution. This includes reviewing and approving project estimates, proposals, and contracts, particularly for existing or new accounts with significant revenue potential. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of the value derived from site-based, project, and response work as it relates to the product line and market segments served. The role demands proficiency in accounting, contracts, P&L analysis, negotiations, teamwork, and human relations skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in the power industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the electric power or energy generation industry with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a manager in operations, maintenance or engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in power generation operations, maintenance activities, and asset management as related to generation, transmission, and distribution facilities.
  • Proven experience working effectively in a unionized work environment.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office, project management software, and power industry-specific applications.
  • Must be able to read complex reports, write detailed articulate reports and prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Analyze complex operational and engineering challenges and resolve same.
  • Learn new technological advances in power and also in the water/wastewater industry.
  • A valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Operational and Financial Management Execute the business plan in alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Manage Profit and Loss (P&L) and drive business growth.
  • Develop and analyze direct and indirect cost factors relative to market rates and competitor pricing for similar services.
  • Prepare annual budgets encompassing manpower, materials, and equipment.
  • Assess monthly EBIT budget forecasts against actual business results.
  • Review contract bids and pricing for cost ratios, accuracy of terminology, and preparation before finalizing contract specifications.
  • Oversee site projects with Project Managers to ensure optimal efficiency and contract compliance.
  • Collaborate with Business Development on potential new projects Compliance and Safety Enforce all environmental, health, safety, transportation, and operational procedures in accordance with Veolia policies.
  • Provide a safe and compliant work environment for all employees.
  • Oversee all federal, state, and local compliance activities to achieve adherence to all applicable regulations.
  • Communication Proactively communicate with others to share resources, ideas, and information.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage assets and people across division boundaries, resulting in improved business opportunities and lower costs.
  • Lead, coach, supports and develops peers and division teams.
  • Develop team goals and individual goals, which are aligned with and in support of region, branch, and Veolia.
  • Develop leadership resources plan for financial, administrative, and operations positions and contribute to plans in other areas (i.e. Sales & Marketing).
  • Other duties as assigned.
