About The Position

General Manager – Redwood Recycling Redwood Recycling, part of the Metro Group family, is a leading metal recycling facility serving Taylorsville, UT. We operate with integrity, maintain a strong safety culture, and pride ourselves on delivering excellent service to our customers and communities. We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven General Manager to lead our recycling facility. This role is responsible for the overall performance of the yard, including safety, operations, team leadership, and customer experience. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in an industrial environment, enjoys developing people, and takes pride in running a safe, efficient operation. This position oversees a team of approximately 12 employees and plays a key role in maintaining a positive work culture while driving operational results. This is a hands-on leadership role. The General Manager is expected to be actively involved in daily yard operations, working alongside the team to maintain safety, efficiency, and productivity. What Success Looks Like in This Role Maintain a safe operation where employees go home injury-free every day. Lead a reliable team that works efficiently and takes pride in the yard. Keep equipment operational and minimize downtime. Deliver fast, professional service that keeps customers coming back. Continuously improve yard organization, workflow, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience in scrap metal recycling, industrial operations, warehousing, or similar environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and kneeling (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to work in an outdoor industrial environment in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scheduling transportation or coordinating logistics preferred.
  • Knowledge of the scrap metal industry is a strong plus.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders, forklifts, skid steers, or excavators is beneficial.
  • Experience in scrap metal recycling, construction materials, demolition, aggregates, trucking, or heavy industrial operations is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Champion and maintain a strong safety-first culture across all yard operations.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Lead by example in enforcing safety standards, procedures, and company policies.
  • Oversee daily operations including ferrous and non-ferrous processing, logistics coordination, and administrative functions.
  • Monitor production performance, material recovery, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and equipment repairs to ensure reliable operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve yard processes, organization, and efficiency.
  • Hire, lead, and develop a team of approximately 12 employees across operations and administration.
  • Provide clear direction, training, and coaching to build a strong, accountable team.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote a customer-first culture throughout the yard.
  • Ensure customers receive prompt, professional service.
  • Build strong relationships with commercial and public customers.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement strategies to improve results.
  • Approve employee timecards and ensure accurate operational reporting.
  • Maintain clear communication with company leadership regarding yard performance and needs.
